At the end of 1984 International Productions, promoters of Evergreen Speedway located in Monroe Washington, were at a crossroads. For almost thirty years the regular Saturday night show involved two racing organizations, the Figure Eight Auto Racers (FEAR), and the Foreign Stock Car Racing Association (FSCRA). In 1983 and 1984 there was a push to bring horse racing to the speedway which would impact the racing activities. After fighting off these efforts and looking for a more stable position International Productions decided to turn to NASCAR. They took over the FEAR Super Stock division, and, when unable to agree to contract terms with FSCRA, they started a Mini Stock division under the NASCAR banner. At this time NASCAR created the Northwest Tour and Evergreen would host the opening race and be a supporter of the series. The final big news was to expand the annual NASCAR Winston West race from 200 to 500 laps; the first time the NASCAR Winston West Series had a 500-lap race in over 30 years. This book details the first five years that Evergreen Speedway embraced the NASCAR banner. Besides the story there is a listing of the winners, as well as the NASCAR record of the NASCAR classes, the Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, and bombers. Illistrations highlight the cars and drivers of the time. Read more
