In I See You in There, the author shares story after story in which seeing and believing in the uniqueness of individuals and their surroundings is the magic ingredient to moving forward with communication. We all can learn the ins and outs of communication devices and we also can learn a wide range of therapeutic strategies for the implementation of AAC. This book contains what is missing in much of the literature around supporting individuals with complex communication needs and their families. The reality is, the devices and strategies do not motivate people to communicate. Communication is about the individual connecting with those around them in meaningful ways. I have had the honor of knowing Brenda Robertson Del Monte in a professional and personal capacity throughout her entire 19-year career as an SLP. I have observed her knowledge, skills, and experience in AAC assessment and implementation to be exemplary. I have worked with Brenda in my capacity as an OT and director of a nonprofit in Washington state that coaches school teams and families on AAC assessment and implementation.
